Featured here is a 14.00 carat cabochon opal with a blue base color with flashes of green purple. This loose opal measures 14 mm wide, 26 mm long, 9 mm deep and has a total depth of 64.3%. The opal has been sourced from Ethiopia, which is a fairly new source discovered in 2008. Ethiopia produces hydrophane opals that resist crazing and are more durable. If your opal soaks up water, the opal will turn a milky white color, with in a couple days your opal should dry out and restore its vivid colors once again.
